Talk by Grand Historian, R.W. Bro. Michael Jenkyns, followed by an Irish supper.

R.W. Bro. Michael Jenkyns, Grand Historian, who has spent many years studying Masonic history and has written a book on the history of Irish Lodges in Canada has accepted an invitation to visit Frontenac Lodge for our regular meeting on March 9. This falling on the week-end before St. Patrick’s Day, it seemed appropriate to give the evening an Irish flavour. R.W. Bro. Jenkyns will give a talk on Irish Masonry and we will follow the Lodge meeting with an informal supper with “an Irish flavour”.

Irish Lodges and the role they played in the spread of Freemasonry in Canada and throughout the English speaking world is an under-told Masonic story. Many of the military lodges which facilitated this deployment were in Irish regiments. In fact, Bro. Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo, was Anglo-Irish as were many other leaders of the time. The Grand Lodge of Ireland is nearly as old as the United Grand Lodge of England and a number of Canadian Lodges have held onto their Irish heritage.

We have extended this invitation to other lodges in the District. I’m sure it will be an educational and entertaining evening.
